Life as a teacher begins the day you realize that you are always a learner - Anonymous
As a prekindergarten teacher, I have 20 very energetic little ones that are very anxious to learn! They are always asking TONS of questions and always wanting to know more!
I have currently been teaching for 12 years.
Most people would say 12 long years, but for me, they have been the best years of my life. Over the last 12 years I have learned more about myself than I ever imagined. I started in Special Education, taught 4th grade, moved down to Kindergarten, and just moved down to Prekindergarten this year. And through all of these wonderful years of teaching, I am always learning something and I have grown as an individual!
My Project
I am requesting a Windows 8 laptop. Our school doesn't have any Windows 8 computers, so I think it would be a great idea for me to learn how Windows 8 works. I've worked on a Windows 8 computer before and after feeling confused, I set my next personal goal at that... to learn how to operate one. My action plan, in terms of professional development, would include 3 meetings with my school tech coach (1 to 1) to help me learn more about Windows 8. Our lesson plan includes a reading list of links/online courses that I should complete and read to broaden my knowledge of this new operating system and all of its features. My personal lesson plan is based off of 2 goals. Goal 1 is to learn the basics of the touch interface, the new operating system, and the store apps. Goal 2 is how to implement math and phonics lessons using touch driven apps with my students.
Technology is forever changing.
So many new ideas and innovations are here and we have to keep up with these changes. I am hoping that by becoming a "student" and learning the basics of this operating system and also learning how to use these touch driven apps, that I will be able to teach my students when the time comes how to use a Windows 8 computer. So will you please help me on this journey of being not only a teacher, but also a student?
