My Students

My goal is to create a love of learning in my students. Sitting at a desk all day doesn't seem to ignite a passion in students. By switching to alternative seating, I have already seen my students more excited to come through the door each morning.

My school is a small elementary school in east Springfield.

We have one classroom per grade level, but our population is increasing rapidly. We have our 60% of our students who qualify for free and reduced lunch. The students at Pershing are kind, the parents are involved, and the staff is dedicated to finding new/better ways to benefit our students! Right now my students have several alternative seating options. These include: couches, stools around a (small) table, large tables, the floor, pillows, camping chairs, and stools at a counter. There are twenty-seven students in the classroom, and what we have is not enough.

My Project

I am requesting one Drop Leaf High Table, one Gaiam Balance Ball Chair, four Stability Wobble Cushions, two Ottoman Foot Rests, and one Parsons Coffee Table. I have students who will greatly benefit from being able to stand while they work at the drop leaf High Table, or use the coffee table. The Gaiam Balance Ball Chair and stability Wobble Cushions will help them focus. Students all learn in different ways, and being able to learn differently in different locations has already proven to be a huge benefit to students who struggle to focus.

Young students struggle with being in the same place and position for an extended time.

This will help students be better engaged and more excited about learning. They are excited about all of the items we have requested and can't wait to have more options for their learning environment.
