If you have ever had the opportunity to gaze through a telescope, you know how magical and provocative the experience can be. I would love to be able to provide this experience for my students.
My students are amazing for so many reasons.
Our school is in a working class neighborhood in New Jersey and my kids make do with very little. I am continually surprised at the reaction the students have when they receive the smallest of treats. Our school does not have some of the frills of more fortunate areas, but we find creative ways to provide an exciting environment for the children. In many cases these will be the best four years of their lives since most of our kids go on to two year community colleges while working part time jobs for spending money.
Every day I go into school trying to find a way to make an impact on their lives.
My Project
The kids love our chemistry class because they see and experience things that they have never experienced before. The explosions are a big hit with demos like the whoosh bottle and gummy bear sacrifice being two of the better ones. It would be awesome if we could find a way to provide a classroom telescope for the students. Most of them have never been to a science museum, and have never experienced this first-hand.
I love my students and I spend hours of my spare time thinking up ways to make their experience in our chemistry class more fulfilling.
You can help me by providing some equipment that will truly make a lasting impression on young minds. I guarantee that the kids will always remember the labs that we spend outside the classroom gazing into the heavens. Your help can make this a reality. Thanks so much.
