My students need two hot plates for our lab projects.

My Students
Chemistry can be fun. Unfortunately, we do not have enough lab equipment for everyone so we have to work in groups of 3-4 students. We could really use two hot plates so that my students can perform more hands-on experiments.
My students are amazing for so many reasons.
Our school is in a working class neighborhood in New Jersey and my students make do with very little. They are awesome because they really appreciate it when we do exciting experiments during our chemistry labs. Our school does not have some of the frills of more fortunate areas, but we find creative ways to provide an challenging environment for the children.
My Project
Lab days are the days that get my students excited about school. They enjoy the hands-on activities, and I am thrilled that they are motivated about learning since there is always a scientific principle tied into the activity. During the year we build hot air balloons (Gas Laws), make ice cream (freezing point depression), and produce slime (polymers). A majority of our labs involve the use of hot plates. We use the hot plates to get materials to the proper temperature. Unfortunately, we do not have enough hot plates to go around. We have to double up our lab groups and as a result we have more students simply observing the activity rather than taking part. If we had two more hot plates more of our students could benefit from the activities.
I have great students that really get excited about lab days.
I try to make learning exciting as a means of inspiring them to consider careers in science. Two hot plates would go a long way towards making this dream come true.
