Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is full of busy learning all day long. We have lots to learn in 1st grade, so there is no time to stop. My students especially love activities that get us up moving, so I try to incorporate that type of learning as much as possible.
My school is a Title 1 school.
Many of my students are on free/reduced lunch and/or are at risk for not graduating. Despite their difficult lives at home, they come to my classroom with smiles, ready to learn! It is so inspiring to work with them. They have so much potential. It's my job to do everything I can to help them learn. My students work very hard, but some of them have an extremely difficult time focusing in class. Some of my students are diagnosed with ADHD. My students need to wiggle and move, but traditional desk chairs do not allow this. In fact, many of my wiggly students often fall on the floor because they are trying to get in a position to learn comfortably. I allow them to stand, but my most distracted students tend to wander away from their areas once they stand up.
My Project
The Hokki Stools and wobble cushions will help my students to be able to sit and wiggle at the same time. My students will be able to safely wiggle and work instead of sitting like contortionists and falling out of their desks. They will have options for seating, and students will get to choose how they sit. In my experience, the more choices you give students, the more they enjoy learning. These special stools and cushions will be especially helpful to students who need to be able to move to concentrate.
This project will make a huge difference in my classroom.
The students will feel excited to have new special seats to use. I know it will also make a big difference to my students who have difficulty concentrating. These students often feel frustrated because they are unable to control themselves. The Hokki Stools and wobble cushions will help them concentrate and not feel frustrated. This will help everyone feel happier!
