I have twenty-three fifth grade students who come from a variety of backgrounds. My students are great kids that are very eager to learn! They would be thrilled to know that someone cares about them!
There is nothing better than a good novel to get my students interested in reading.
My students struggle to read and are reluctant to take the challenge of reading a novel. Many of my students are reading at least 1-2 years below grade level when they enter fifth grade.
My Project
I am requesting class sets of two novels from the “Sammy Keyes” series, I am asking for Sisters of Mercy and Skeleton Man. Sammy Keyes is a series of mystery novels written by Wendelin Van Draanen. The series focuses on Sammy's adventures as an amateur detective. The books, which are narrated in the first-person perspective by Sammy, involve detective fiction as well as comedy.
Reading a novel with my class engages them in a way that cannot be done with the short stories from our reading text book. When I have the ability to teach my students using a novel, I am always impressed with how my kids become so invested in the plight of the main character.
Your donation will make it possible for ALL of my fifth grade students to have access to some great novels.
Thank you very much for contributing to the achievement of my fifth grade students.
