Some of my students are still attaching meaning to tangible things within society. I would like their comprehension of books and language to increase by the end of the school year. "If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn."
I work with students on the Autism spectrum.
They are all a great group of students who are in an inclusive class. The school cultural is awesome as the students are able to move throughout the day with their peers. This helps to maximize their social interactions in a typical setting. All of my students are able to work independently and within group instruction. They all work very hard and need limited assistance with academics. Each day I work to increase and promote age appropriate social behaviors.
My students will be able to interact with their peers by using interactive programs that increase social skills. In addition there are Boardmaker interactive activities that increase answering "wh" questions and comprehensive questions for the sequence of events within the story. Picture symbols that turn to text will increase writing paragraphs amongst my fourth grade student. Overall, there are various apps on the iPad that are very useful resources for students on the spectrum.
Donations to this project will help my students become more engaged within the lesson.
It will also increase in teaching basic social skills like asking questions, introducing oneself, having a conversation with several sentences exchanged and playing games with peers. These skills will change the lives of my students as they relate to their typical peers.
