Having the advantage of powerful technology tools in a classroom can truly enhance learning experiences. Computers are crucial to classrooms. I know having a new Dell laptop with Windows 8 would benefit all of us in the long run. With that said though, I must first learn more about this new operating system.
I am currently a 4th grade team at a Pre K-5th grade school.
This is my second year at this school and I am impressed with a wonderful parental support system here. Our school has more than 500 students at this time. I teach two sections of ELA (English Language Arts) subjects to both groups. My students in both sections are eager to learn and I truly enjoy having each one in my classroom! However, as a school, we don't have many Windows 8 computers. Like a few others here, I have a personal goal to learn how to work with a Windows 8 laptop. I would love to have one to use with my eager students eventually. I know to accomplish this though, I need to back step a bit and be the student once again. I am more than willing to do what it takes. With all of that said, gaining this would be a win-win situation for me and later, my students.
My Project
In a nutshell, our school doesn't have many Windows 8 computers, so I met with our tech specialist to see if I gained one if she could help me. She loved the idea! We sat together and came up with a Professional Development plan. It would include meeting as a group to help those who want to learn more about Windows 8 computers. The set plan for my journey would mean meeting three times to help me have a clear vision of Windows 8 and how use it later on. In addition to that, our tech coach gathered professional development articles to aid my journey with effective academic uses of a windows 8. I've been told that Windows 8 is a different format and I have a bit to learn. Through the use of the requested laptop, I will be guided on my learning path. Our plan includes striving for 2 goals. Goal 1 includes Windows 8 hands-on lessons for me to learn more while the next goal lies with me guiding students later on. Before I get to goal 2, though, I have to become a student and learn about Windows.
At this time, we have a unique instance which would help me as an educator to learn more about the powerful use of Windows 8.
However first, I need to step back and become the student in this scenario. My plan is to become involved as a student again. With the help of my technology leader at my school guiding me, combined with your funding, I will strive to become a better educator by becoming a student again. Will you consider helping this determined educator on her personalized laptop quest?
