Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Since our school doors shut on March 13, 2020, I have engaged with my special education students through Google Meetups via their general education classroom teachers' invitation. All of my students receive services within their general education classroom so this was a good fit to continue seeing them and provide support.

My Project

My young special education students require dynamic visuals to assist them with comprehension, especially during this time of distance learning. Our district is still trying to figure out what the coming school year will look like, but teachers are starting to plan for continued teaching through a blended curriculum of school and home-based learning.

One of the main things I learned from our Google Meetups in the spring of 2020 was that all students need to be actively engaged with what is being presented via the computer.

A Cricut machine will be used to create many visuals that will aid in their overall comprehension of materials being covered. When we are back at school, the Cricut will be used to organize classroom materials and to create inspirational belletin boards for our students and staff. There are so many things that can be accomplished with a Cricut, and it would be very beneficial to have one to create meaningful lessons for all of my students in and out of the classroom.

A document camera is a necessity for any teacher working from home to assist students with extra visuals, manipulatives and demonstrations to help them understand new content! It is not something I had previously, but I hope to inspire my students with its functionality to enhance their learning.
