Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In kindergarten we sit on the floor a lot. We begin each day sitting in a circle for our calendar time and student of the day activities.
My students are a group of very energetic four and five year old kindergartners.
Most of my students speak two languages and come from very low socio-economic homes. The majority of my students are not truly prepared for kindergarten. Many arrive without any prior school experience. We spend a lot of time on the carpet for group activities. My students love to sit and lay on the carpet to read and play games. Many of my students prefer to sit on the carpet to do their daily work. They enjoy having the freedom to sprawl out while they work.
My Project
We currently have a very old tattered carpet that we use. Without the carpet we would be sitting on an industrial tile floor. We spend a great amount of our day on the carpet. Our day begins on the carpet for our morning circle time. This is where we also read stories, write our morning messages and go over our daily calendar activities. Having a new carpet that is also an interactive carpet will allow for more interactive teaching on the carpet. The carpet I am requesting will help to reinforce phonics skills. A variety of activities can be had with this new carpet, being that it displays each letter of the alphabet and a corresponding picture.
Help make my kindergarten classroom a warm and inviting place by providing my students with a carpet that promotes learning.
By providing my students with a new interactive educational phonics rug, you are providing them with opportunity to learn.
