3D Printing: Designing the Future

My students need filament refills for our 3D printer. We have a printer in our STEM Lab, but we are out of filament material(PLA), so our designs are now at a standstill.

My Students

At Austin Elementary, we are growing our STEM program, but have hit a few bumps in the road. We recieved a 3D printer last year, with very few rolls of filament. The students get so excited about designing, if and when they actually get to print them. Right now we are all out, and need your help!

The imagination of a child is like flower, it needs constant nurturing, to help it grow to its fullest potential.

At Austin ES, students are creative and love to show what they know and can do, but if they only get to design, without manufacturing & turning their thoughts to realities, their love of "making" and creativity will soon wane. Students need follow through, for their assignments to be meaningful, and who know's they may just design the next big thing and well on their way to an entrepreneurial future, as well as, giving us something we can no longer live without!

My Project

While in the STEM Lab or Art class, the students will design things that can be printed on our 3D printer. So far we have made lots of baskets for our aquaponic gardens and other containers and labels for plants. The students will make geographic models. They will make connectors for geodesic domes. Some will be printing parts for simple and complex machines. The possibilities are endless and only hampered by the lack of materials needed to print them. I can't wait to see what else they can design and create!

The donation of needed PLA filament refills for our 3D printer will allow our students to be as creative and ingenious as I know they are.

The rest of the world may never know about, or get that new invention that everyone must have, if we don't get refill materials to use for our designs. The world of manufacturing is on a precipice, and Austin students could be blazing forward, ahead of the curve, even starting their own businesses, with the help your wonderful donations!
