My Students

Do you want to help students become 21st century learners whose work moves beyond the classroom? As we incorporate iPads and laptops into our everyday learning, the children are creating products such as commercials, news broadcasts, and computer programs that need to be shared with the school.

We are a STEM school that utilizes the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics to enhance our curriculum.

As the STEM/Technology teacher for our school I serve over 750 students. This is our first year as a STEM school. Currently I am working with students and teachers to create new and exciting videos and projects on our iPads. Our students utilize the Engineering Design Process (ask, imagine, plan, create, improve) to solve problems through projects. We are also incorporating Project Based Learning (PBL) to enhance our students education. One of the requirements of PBL is to create products that move beyond the classroom and reach a larger audience. We are a Title One school. Many of our students don't have access outside of school to the technology that is driving the future of our country. We want to help them maximize this potential while at our school. We want to prepare them for the future. We want to make learning fun and relevant.

My Project

This new TV, Apple TV and HDMI cable will allow for students to be able to display their projects to the entire school on our morning news cast as well as throughout the day. Currently students are working on projects such as making a commercial to market a product, producing videos to explain how we can help endangered species, creating their own stories/books, learning to create computer programs, and much more. Because we currently have limited ways of sharing projects beyond the classroom, the learning stops with the classroom. We want to reach a broader audience. Currently, we project with an old TV, camcorder, and some AV cables. This system does not work with iPads and when using a laptop doesn't transmit sound. With a new television that has modern ports such as HDMI, along with an Apple TV, we can help our students reach new heights in their learning. We will have the ability to seamlessly broadcast their accomplishments to another classroom or to the entire building.

With these items we will inspire students' creativity allowing them to see each others' projects.

This will also inspire the teachers to create new and exciting projects in their own classrooms. We also want to help our students become 21st century learners who are able to use technology with real world applications. Showing students' work beyond the classroom will not only allow it to impact more people, it will also create a sense of pride of accomplishment for the students who created it.
