I am a Speech and Language Pathologist in a very rural area of Western North Carolina. I serve approximately 24 children with speech disorders. During our sessions, we will work on different oral motor movements to help improve the student's awareness of the articulators. (tongue, lips, teeth) I would like to provide each student with their own bag of whistles, flutes, bubbles, straws, kazoos, and other fun things that can help increase oral awareness. Some of the childrens' speech is so impaired, they cannot be understood by their classmates or even other adults. Oral motor movements help to improve awareness, speed, agility, accuracy and tone of the oral motor musculature. Most of all, it is fun! My students love to blow bubbles (increases breath support, improves airstream pressure, modulates voice) and practice using their whistles. Often, they ask, "Can we use our bags today?" My budget will not allow for this expense this year. I did not want to disappoint the students so I thought I would try for funding elsewhere. I thank you in advance for your kind consideration.
