  • Primary Resources in Their Hands: Research Captured by Video

    Funded May 11, 2012

Thank you again for your generous contribution to our project. The students were excited to have access to opportunities to write and communicate with others outside their classroom, including the ability to create video to be shared using their Google Apps for Education accounts. Some of our video projects have been posted at our classroom blog, "Just Ask Mrs. Rivera" - http://jamr.blogspot.com

We have been trying to find ways to integrate video technology, and we are now documenting activities such as reading literature, outdoor games, and dance performances. You have reinvigorated our learning, and we have been inspired to write and collaborate more. Please visit our classroom blog for weekly updates about our class.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rivera

  • Primary Resources in Their Hands: ID Bullying in Schools

    Funded Apr 13, 2012

Thank you for your generous contribution to our project. The students were able to research and have access to opportunities to write and communicate with others about the subject of bullying, including strategies for preventing it. The books were a great resource as the students delved into scenarios familiar to their own stories.

The tablet technology was also helpful to further addressing tackling bullying. We accessed the Internet from our own classroom. You have reinvigorated our learning and have equipped us with the tools necessary for identifying and reducing incidents involving various forms of bullying.

We are very excited about all of the possibilities for our classroom that have been opened up with this project. Thank you again for your investment in us.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rivera

  • Primary Resources In Their Hands: Mission Magic Tree House

    Funded Jan 31, 2012

Thank you for your generous contribution. The access to this literature has allowed the students to develop skills in drawing out historical facts from a fictional story. Research done through use of the ASUS eee tablet allowed them to research the actual history behind the situations that Jack and Annie are challenged with.

The ability to research and uncover historical facts within fiction has created a culture of learning where each student developed an appreciation of the depth in which literature like The Magic Tree House series provides. Once again, thank for the book collection and Tablet technology.”

  • Primary Resources in Their Hands: Tablets for Writing

    Funded Dec 12, 2011

Thank you for your generous contribution to our project. The students have used the ASUS eee tablet to access the Internet to write and communicate with others outside their classroom, using their student Google accounts.

We have been discovering new ways to integrate mobile technology, and this was directly impacted through the equipment resources we received. We are no longer limited to Internet access through desktop computers in a lab and old equipment in the classroom.

You have reinvigorated our learning, and we have been inspired to write and collaborate more.”

Twenty-four second grade students from diverse cultural backgrounds attend an elementary school in an urban area of California. Over 55% of the students in this school have been identified as disadvantaged (Title I). More than 15% of the students in this school are classified as English Learners. The students in my classroom do have school-issued e-mail accounts and use the accounts to communicate with others via written, oral, and artistic means. This happens through some access to technology resources, expanded reading and writing experiences, and hands-on experiential activities.
