My students are survivors. They survived a tornado in our rural community in April, 2011; they survive life in a town stricken with the malaise of poverty. More than survivors, they are compassionate young men and women. Even those who have endured heartbreak in their lives are carefully attuned to expressions of love from teachers. And, they are quick to reciprocate in kind. These kind-hearted students need a way to support themselves and their families, however. No matter what the songwriters say, you can't live on love. The Department of Labor in Georgia says that engineering and information technology occupations are growing "faster than the state average job growth" (Workforce Statistics & Economic Research 2014). I look forward to supporting our students as they grow and mature into the future of our town and country!
