Greetings ! My classroom is full of bright ideas, colorful personalities and lots of energy. The students in the classroom are all severely physically and developmentally handicapped. Our staff is always trying to come up with ideas to enrich the living skills of our students.
Recently a student came to school with her own personalized towel. Each week we are treated to a great therapeutic swim class. Everyone just "ooooood" and "ahhhhhhed" over the nice embroidery. So we brainstormed and thought this would be a great project for our students.
Even though my students have limited mobility, they are able to choose colors and press switches (which would activate the embroidery machine). Our goal would be to get enough towels donated so that we could personalize towels for the entire school (about 75 students). The students in my classroom would beam with joy when they are able to start the machine and watch the thread create beautiful art.
After this project we will be able to use the machine to start up a small DESIGNER business. We are hoping to personalize shirts and sell them. Our school mascot is the American Eagle and with the great software that we have requested each student could find the clip art they would like to place on a shirt and start their own project.
We like to develop goals for our students so they can achieve them and shine. By using a switch activated embroidery machine, each student will be able to not only have the cause and effect portion of their goal met, but they will be making wonderful items for family and friends. Thank you for considering our new adventure.
