My students feel more comfortable with technology than without. To be provided a computer, to be encouraged to use it for many is better than watching a movie in class. I attempt to bring the Internet into the classroom as often as possible but our current technology makes that difficult.
My students attend a rural middle school along Highway 101.
With long distances to travel between towns, technologies helps students stay connected with friends and online culture. Using computers in the classroom allows my students to utilize skills they already have, while learning and demonstrating new knowledge.
My Project
My students need 30 Chromebooks to minimize load screens and maximize learning. In my classroom, Google Apps is the primary method through which my students submit assignments. The ability to review (and revert to) previous editing stages of the documents makes Google Apps brilliant from both the students' stand point and mine. Careless mistakes are easily fixed and academic dishonesty is quickly detected.
Long load screens and unreliable performance have left many of my students willing to handwrite rather than wait.
A class set (just barely) of Chromebooks would allow my students to quickly and reliably access Google Apps and other online activities.
