Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We have been piloting Chromebooks in our classroom since last January and now we need to give them up. They have become a vital part of how we learn each and every day. Our school does not have the money right now to continue the program so we are asking for your help!
The students in my fifth grade classroom are in the second year of a two year program called Learning on the Edge.
It is a program housed within a traditional elementary school in Bermuda Dunes, CA. The program encourages project based learning and the utilization of technology to foster 21st century skills.
My Project
The Chromebooks we are currently piloting for the district have allowed us to do amazing things. We have created a full digital art gallery which you can find on line. We are currently writing ten page stories as a part of our careers as authors. We are using Google Docs to have on line editors that are helping us through the writing process. We are planning to publish an anthology of stories in both on line and digital form in January. We also want to encourage the younger students at our school to read published works done by their fellow peers.
Our next career is going to be digital game design. Without the Chromebooks this project will be nearly impossible. All of these amazing things and more are chronicled at our class wiki. All of this is in addition to our traditional school work.
These fourth and now fifth graders have demonstrated that they can take care of and learn using the current set of Chromebooks we are using.
Having to give up the Chromebooks in January will definitely effect how we learn . It will impact many of the great projects I have planned for the rest of their time with me. Your generous donation of any amount will go a long way to financing the future.
