Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Children know technology as a source of entertainment, but how many know it as a source of education? Across the nation, schools are pushing for integration of technology in the classroom, but without the proper resources, it is hardly possible.
The groups that this project would reach are two Fourth Grade classes with students between the ages of 9-10 at a public Spanish/English bilingual school in Washington, DC.
These 43 students are a charismatic, caring and creative group who would truly benefit from the diverse learning and teaching opportunities that the tablets have to offer.
My Project
Having two iPads in the classroom would allow groups of students to work on the many activities the tablets offer at the same time. Each iPad would allow for differentiated instruction otherwise not possible without the technology. During guided, paired or independent reading, students will use the iPads as eReaders (storia on Scholastic is affordable app for purchasing books) as well as word decoders (WordFamilies) and dictionaries and thesauri . During writing, students will respond to prompts created by the keynote app or pictures placed in iPhoto (write a description, compare and contrast, write a dialog, etc.) as well as create presentations through Prezi and practice with dialog and story building in ComicBook!. Not to mention the endless possibilities the iPads would have in Mathematics, Social Studies and Science through videos (BrainPop), math games (FlashRacer!) and magazines (National Geographic Kids).
Your donation will give my students the opportunity to have a learning tool, literally at their finger tips, that addresses various levels.
Students with learning difficulties would benefit from the displays, graphics and apps designed to be at their level while students needing more of a challenge would benefit from the hundreds or stories, magazines, and apps that would take their learning beyond the textbook.
Please donate and so we can have some longer-lasting apples in class.
