FULLY FUNDED! Ms. H.'s classroom raised $909
This project is fully funded
Does a penguin have fur or feathers? Can bears swim? How tall is a giraffe? What kind of noise does a real monkey make? My enthusiastic first graders are full of questions about animals, and I would love for them to have a chance to explore those animals and find the answers themselves at the Memphis Zoo.
I am one of four first grade teachers in a small school in Duncan, Mississippi, a small town in the Mississippi Delta. All 70 of the first graders at our school come from low-income backgrounds and often have unstable home lives. Because of their location and their circumstances, many students don't have the opportunity to visit the zoo to see the animals they read about in books or see on television up close.
The families of our students have raised the money to cover admission to the zoo, but we need your help to pay for an hour-long zoo class for each child and 2 buses to take us the 100 miles to the zoo. Getting to see real, exotic animals up close, and learning about them from a qualified zoologist would be the highlight of the year for our first graders.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
