I am currently the Instructional Technology Specialist for my campus, so I assist all teachers in integrating the meaningful use of technology within their classrooms.

We currently have everything we need for this project except the actual GPS units. We need 10-30 GPS units, so students can work in groups in their geography classes (and any other interested classes). The total students in the geography classes is approximately 450 students, but I ultimately hope to get students involved in other classes as well.

So many times students draw maps and color them, solve equations, and learn about the environment in isolation, so they do not really understand the importance of why they are studying these topics because no relevance to their every day lives is established. I think this project will help students see the relevance and thus better learn the material. Instead of just filling out a worksheet at their desk, they will have the opportunity to learn through an experience.
