Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Several of my students have never been outside of their home town. We live in a rural, low-wealth area where students only leave home to go to school or church. When I teach them about colleges and career development, they cannot imagine many of the opportunities available to them.

My students are in grades pre-kindergarten through five and are amazing people with a strong desire to learn.

They attend school where resources are limited. Over ninety percent of my students receive free or reduced lunch. They love technology and they love to think about their futures. They have very high hopes and dreams and are learning how to work hard to reach their goals.

My Project

I am requesting a tablet with Internet capability. My students will be able to travel the world with an Internet computer tablet. When I teach them about careers they've never heard of, we can use the tablet to video-conference with a real professional in the field. We can also view college websites and interview current college students and professors. My students will be fascinated by this capability. It will make them even more curious and enthusiastic about their futures. They need to be able to see outside of their current, limited view of the world.

This project will provide clear proof to my students that they can reach their dreams.

We will have a resource that will bring endless possibilities to a group of well-deserving students in NC.
