Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember ever looking at the carpet in your home and thinking it looked awful? My students and I look at our rug, with its frayed edges and stains, and think that everyday!
My 2nd Graders are lively and intelligent.
They are also very diverse, with more than half coming from homes where a second language is spoken. They are bused in from all over the city to attend our wonderful magnet school. Most come from hardworking families that qualify for free and reduced meals.
My Project
My 2nd Graders need time out of their seats to boost their concentration. We will use the area rug to alternate time between desk work and class meetings. Class meetings are used to learn a new concept, hold discussions, read stories, and partner talk. The rug is a great place for students to have independent time when they finish an assignment too.
A clean new rug would not only be hygienic, but it would also be big enough to accommodate all students comfortably.
