As a new teacher, my classroom is filled with excitement for reading. I am very lucky to teach a wonderful group of third graders who share that passion for reading! Unfortunately, my classroom lacks enough nonfiction to satisfy their appetite!
My third graders are in the north end of the state's largest urban school district.
Due to budget constraints across the district we have to ask our community and parents to help provide the materials we need - book for their students to read every day in class! We need books to fill our classroom library and school-shared book room so that all students have access to material that is engaging AND informational.
My Project
Can you imagine teaching a room full of students who are eager to read every day and cheer when a few new books arrive for our classroom library? Can you imagine that same group of students not having access to enough books to contain their appetite for reading? It's a crying shame! As a teacher, I can't let the enthusiasm fade away due to lack of reading material. By funding our classroom library, you're allowing students feel confident in their reading abilities since they are reading at their "just right" level AND are getting to learn from their reading. Sounds like a win-win situation to me!
The more students read, the better their reading becomes.
By helping make nonfiction books more accessible in our classroom library, students will continue to learn from and grow in their reading endeavors. Additionally, they will continue to fuel that passion for reading and learning that they walk in the door every day with! Please help us fund a nonfiction classroom library that we so desperately need!
