This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Being able to dissect a frog is the number one thing students look forward to when they enter the 7th grade. I'm willing to bet you still remember your first dissection, your initial hesitation to touch the specimen followed by the thrill of being able to identify actual organs. Nothing tops that!
I have taught all three grade levels at the middle school level and among all the engaging lessons I teach, the frog dissection is by far the most memorable.
I can still see the initial reactions of students when they're handed that dissecting tray with the specimen. The students I teach have very little science background and it is very important for me to make this content engaging and educational at the same time. It is my hope that they'll develop a passion for science and pursue it as they continue their academic careers.
My Project
My students need 100 grassfrogs for dissecting and an acrylic mold toad dissection to visually prepare for their first dissection. I understand that some people are opposed to dissections, however, I would be willing to bet these people have never stepped into a middle school classroom during such an event. This is by far the most engaging activity my students take part in during the entire school year. My students will be able to identify every part of the frog and compare it to the human body. This is an incredibly valuable learning experience that I hope my students will be able to take part in.
With your support my students will continue to look forward to these dissections and will continue to have something to brag about when they get home from school after a day of dissections in my class.
