This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Could you imagine anything more exciting then getting to publish your very own book?!?
My students are excited about coming to school every day and learning new information.
They especially love reading and learning about text.
Our students attend a title one school in an urban area in Maryland. The students view the classroom as a get away from many problems being family, neighborhood or economic hardship.
The students are always exciting to come in to the classroom in the morning and complete our reading lessons. They often have their books out and ready before asked to and before the announcements even begin, eager to start the lesson.
My Project
I am requesting blank books so that the students can apply what they have learned about text, editing and writing. They will be able to complete their own book that is hardbound and durable that they can keep. They will need crayons so they can use their imaginations and create pictures to go along with their stories. They will need construction paper to help add depth to their pictures and to create the cover of their books. Finally, the sharpies will be used to write the stories to prevent smudging or wiping away of their text.
My students have a love for reading that not many students show today.
They love to tell stories and are beginning to learn how to write them into paragraphs and edit their paragraphs to make sense. A final project of being able to create their own book will help to embed the joy of reading and writing into their lives and they will have a way to remember all the processes of writing.
