Not only do I teach my students academics, but I teach them how to be responsible and independent away from home. However, my students can't reach their daily mail. It is in an organizer that's too tall and falling apart! Their book boxes are cracking because they tip over and fall from the shelf.
My students are eager to please and work as a team to help one another out.
They want to become independent . . . to face challenges . . . to take care of our classroom. They are faced with learning a hefty amount of content area as well as social and life skills.
As they work, their book boxes, heavy with books, tip over and fall off shelves, causing quite a stir as my helpful students rush over to clean them up.
As they get ready to go home they wait patiently in line (most days . . . we are learning!) as they get their mail from a tall mailbox organizer that is falling apart.
My Project
The book cart will provide a stable place to house the students' book boxes. The cart is designed for this purpose and holds the boxes perfectly in place without any tipping. The book boxes that come with the cart are heavy duty and are made to last longer with everyday wear and tear. Students can feel good about their efforts to clean and organize our classroom, knowing the boxes won't fall over when they turn around.
The mailbox organizer we are requesting is built to last! It is made of wood and is wide rather than tall. Young first graders will be able to reach their own mail, even if their box is on the top row. The integrity of the wooden structure won't be compromised as they pull their mail from the slots.
I also added a book on CD to this order. Recently our classroom opened a listen to reading station to help the students with their reading fluency. The listen to reading station helps students by making them responsible for treating materials with respect.
It is our duty to raise educated, responsible children.
They are leaders in our schools today and they are the leaders of our world in the future. Instilling a sense of urgency and obligation in our children could be the difference they need.
