Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students with autism often have deficits in understanding social circumstances and conversation. Using a video camera to tape one another in social stories will help students internalize this skill!
My fabulous, smart and creative kinder-2nd grade students all have autism.
All my students live within or below the poverty line. However, this does not keep them from wanting to learn and doing their best when they are in school! My students love technology and giving them this gift would allow them to truly be a part of the 'action.'
My Project
I'm currently taking a course to understand my students with autism better and to learn new and improved teaching strategies. One of the strategies we have been working on is learning through watching your peers. My plan is to record the students performing their own social stories and learning from each other. This would be a great way to understand social cues and behaviors.
What better way to learn about appropriate behaviors and social narratives than from each other?
Students will be more engaged in what they're watching and will be more willing to participate in the lessons. I believe this will benefit them greatly in their school lives and beyond!
