I have been trained intensively in science over the last four years. I have learned content in the four areas of science at the adult level. I have also learned strategies and techniques to teach science in the classroom.
I teach 25 enthusiastic students in a small school in rural Northern California.
Our class is large, but I have very eager students who love to learn. With such motivated students, it is so much fun to add technology and other fun programs to supplement our curriculum. They appreciate having new and innovative methods to help them learn.
My Project
I am asking for a MacBook for my science class. I currently am writing a project for a motion sensor camera so we can watch the wildlife on our campus. Our school is next to a creek so we have deer, birds, turtles, bobcats, and much more to observe. We will be able to record all of the action from the camera to the computer. During the last four years, I have been extensively trained in journaling, so my students will use the information gathered from the motion sensor camera, via the MacBook, to add content to our journals. My students will also use the computer to research science concepts like animals, plants, weather, solids, liquids, and gas, an much more. Images will be displayed on our SmartBoard.
This project is important because science and technology are the future.
We have found that students need to apply, infer, hypothesize and so much more to get them to think. Giving them the computer will be a tool to help us "think" in science. Science is also a hook for so many students. Many that are resistant to school become more interested when content is provided through science.
