My Students

Are you aware of the growing number of students who are interested in pursuing a career in the computer arts? In my high school alone, about half of my high school seniors are interested in attending college for art.

I have been teaching art in an inner city high school for four years now.

We have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of our new laptops since last year, and they have finally arrived. Downfall - no computer graphics software! I teach a design program to my juniors and have not yet in my 4 years here been able to do artwork on the computer. My students are in a high school for art and are preparing to continue their higher learning at an art college. Many of them have never used programs like Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. These are essential for college readiness goals. Our budget has been annually cut and supplies are limited. We work with what we have, but in order to use computers and technology to keep up the pace with more fortunate school districts, we need the supplies.

My Project

My juniors will be enrolling in a design class in the spring semester where I introduce them to all elements of design from fashion to interior to graphic. The graphic design unit is where we have been unable to work on computers for the students to achieve the full experience of a graphic designer. About 2 years ago, we received a Donor's Choose for Creative Suite and we were so excited to use it. Problem number 1 - it was for PC and not Mac. Problem #2 - we were receiving new Macs not PCs. Problem #3 - Adobe would not swap the software because it was not the version they were currently carrying.

I ask from the bottom of my heart and for the future career of my students, please find it somewhere in you to donate to my class.

We have been patiently awaiting the use of these beautiful Macs and have no software to use. We were fortunate in the past to receive the software, and unfortunate with the outcome. Please help my students keep up with technology and be prepared for college and a career. I have the hope and belief in them, now I need to provide the skills.
