My Students
Students in my class have to line up to use the pre-history electric sharpener. The sharpener on the wall won't stop breaking. When I polled the students about what to ask for on DonorsChoose.org, overwhelmingly they asked for a high quality, high volume sharpener. I'm one to listen!
You've never met harder workers.
They amaze me every day. They are conscientious, respectful, and I'm constantly amazed with how intensely they learn. My job is outrageously fun! Kids at our school volunteer for projects that make our world better. We have a green team that raised enough money to buy a compost bin and a scale to weigh food waste to enhance our composting program at school. They asked for a garden club, which was formed this school year. I'm absolutely in awe of the kids at our school. I get a little sad that teachers have to ask for sharpeners and pencils and post its.
My Project
Students volunteered to take turns coming in early to sharpen pencils for their classmates. They wrote for a homework piece to advise me on potential requests to make on DonorsChoose.org. This was their top request! A few reasons they gave were that the line is too long to sharpen; the sharpener on the wall is broken even though it has been fixed a dozen times; the electric sharpener doesn't always work (especially when it's "tired"); and that "the interruption of the pencil sharpener usually makes me forget what I was writing."
Some of my best students are not adequately organized at 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, as we are still imparting these skills at the elementary level.
This student-led request, which will enable them a swifter start to their independent work, would blow their minds! Thanks for your consideration!
