My Students

Research shows that females are less likely to enter the field of science than males. Our school has noticed that our females are less likely to enter science fair projects also. We want to target our 5th and 6th grade females in creating a deeper interest in science.

Our elementary school is very science based.

Our population is even in gender and culturally and racially diverse. We are 75 percent free and reduced lunches. Our school offers a science lab and outdoor classroom that foster hands on science activities. With this project we want to focus on our 5th and 6th grade females.

My Project

We are requesting science fair resource books in various categories: chemistry, force and motion, exercise science, environmental, nutritional, animal and plant sciences. We are also requesting a book about famous women in science. We have an adult mentoring group that will have lunch with our females and discuss and browse the resource books with them to help spark interest in science and help with science project ideas. We are also requesting a camera and iPad accessories to help them take pictures and download pictures of their projects. We have noticed that we have less females that enter science fair projects than our males. Our goal is to aid in the motivation of our females.

The future of our nation rests on the knowledge of science and it is important that we equip our females with the desire of learning science concepts.
