Help us use technology to enrich the learning experiences of Kindergarten class.
I work at a Title I school in California.
Our Kindergarten students come from low income families and most qualify for our free or reduced lunch program. Many of the students are English language learners with no preschool experience. The students we teach are eager to learn and embrace all of the new experiences that come with going to school for the first time. Many of them do not have the opportunity to interact with technology on a daily basis. They are enthusiastic about learning and technology!
My Project
Technology is the way of the future. With this iPad, we will have hundreds of educational apps at our fingertips. These apps will help students focus on specific learning goals such as letter names and sounds. We will download the app abcPocketPhonics. It will give practice to students that are struggling with letter and sound recognition. We can use it daily during our center time. We also plan to download the app Fab-Phonics to use as a game in small groups. There are also apps that allow students to read or have stories read to them such as the Read Me Stories app. We will be able to use the AV adapter to connect the iPad to my document camera. This will allow us to project the iPad onto our board for the entire class to see and interact with. Students learn in different ways. These games and apps will just be one more opportunity for exposure!
Students are naturally drawn to technology.
It is high interest and can be a very effective teaching tool when used support the teacher. Thank you for seeing the importance of technology in my classroom!
