My Students

What is it like to hear words that seem foreign to you, but comprehensible to others? What is it like to read content vocabulary that you've never heard of or could remotely understand? These are just some of the challenges many of my students face on a daily basis.

I believe in my students, and most importantly I want to provide them all the tools and instruction they need to believe in themselves!

I want math and science to come to life! They need visuals to feel a sense of accomplishment and experience math and science in a new way. I teach in the fourth largest city in Massachusetts. The school that the children are in is a 5-8 middle school. Our student population serves the largest percentage of limited English Proficient students, 2/3 of which live in poverty, and 3/5 of our students come from minority groups primarily from South East Asian, Hispanic, African, and Portuguese families. All of our students are hard workers and most importantly eager to learn. The children come from varied socioeconomic backgrounds. I teach math and science on the English Language Learners team. We have students at all levels of language proficiency.

My Project

This resource will essentially enable me to launch an integral part to our science program. There is a wealth of resources with our science curriculum, however a good piece of it is via the Internet. Unfortunately, I don't have the technology to expose my students to the vast resources the Internet has to offer. This projector would allow me to do this. Students will be exposed to essential content vocabulary. This is critical because a large number of my students are years behind in vocabulary development. Instead of me printing off large pictures of vocabulary, they will be able to truly "see it". We would be able to see experiments and become part of the Scientific Method. It will allow for the children to have meaningful discussions of clips and learn from each other.

My project is so important because our students need all the resources they can get to build content vocabulary.

One amazing tool would be a projector. This will enable me to deliver amazing launches to lessons as well as enrichment throughout a lesson. Technology can bring print to life! Some of our students are years behind when it comes to content vocabulary! This projector would allow me to give children the necessary visuals to bring this vocabulary to life! Please help!
