My students need access to30 subscriptions to leveled current events magazines to read independently and to help them become aware of the world around them.
In today's world, events happening in different parts of the world have an impact on us. We're a global community.
My students are visual learners who use American Sign Language to communicate.
Many of them had limited access to an accessible language before coming to my school, and as a result, have a limited knowledge of the larger world around them. They are motivated learners that are learning the value of language in helping them broaden their knowledge of the world around them.
My Project
Having access to current events magazines written at different levels will allow me to structure guided reading and independent reading groups based on the students' needs. They would be able to use the text to practice reading strategies learned and, at the same time, stay current on the events happening around the world.
With your help, my students will become empowered readers and be able to find out what is happening in the larger world around them independently.
In the process of developing readers, you'll also be helping promote global citizens.
