This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you know how hard it is to focus on tackling a word problem or writing an essay when you're hungry? 97% of my students receive free lunch and do not have the means to bring a snack with them every day, and since we eat lunch at 1:50, they depend on healthy snacks to get through the day.
My fifth grade class is a great bunch of kids with widespread interests, talents and lot of enthusiasm.
They have overcome many obstacles growing up in a low-income/high-need community such as the South Bronx, and continue to surprise me with their resilience and hard work every day. My students are genuinely excited to learn, and keep me inspired with their observations and curiosity about the world around them. They are a joy to teach, and I want to help them by giving them healthy snacks every day so they can focus on learning instead of a growling stomach!
My Project
The healthy snacks you provide will allow my students to feel full and healthy as they go on to conquer the school day. With a little boost of added mid-day energy, I have no doubt that my students will grow even more--academically, socially/emotionally, and physically. Healthy snacks will help my students become aware of the importance of good food in our lives, as a means of sustaining and energizing us so we can accomplish great things.
You will make it possible for my students to focus on the learning at hand rather than counting the minutes until lunchtime.
These healthy snacks will instill in my students the idea that healthy foods can do amazing things for our bodies and minds.
