My students need 3 computers in order to learn about the world in a way that is both appealing to them and prepares them for that very world ahead of them.

My Students

Do you remember playing Oregon Trail in Elementary School? Well times have changed and today's students need a far greater exposure to technology than a palfrey hour a week. Technology needs to be woven into all of the activities that my students will engage in.

I teach at a suburban elementary school that has good test scores and dedicated teachers.

We are not the rich school and we are not the poor school who benefits from additional state funding. Therefore our classes are threadbare when it comes to technology. Any equipment is outdated and next to useless. My students require exposure to the safe use of technology in order to advance as successful students.

My Project

I am requesting three netbook laptops which will be shared among my 30 students. Sixth grade is the year that you start to learn about the bigger world around you; Ancient civilizations and how our earth forms. In order to know the world, my students need to step out into the world, the world of the web. To see it on Google Earth, to explore it with wikipedia, and to touch it with National Geographic. With netbooks, my students will be able to use Google docs, saving their work on the netbook and being able to pick it back up on any computer. Students will also learn about safe and appropriate conduct while online for both scholarly and personal use. The Internet is such a valuable learning tool for enriching my student's lives.

This project is important to me because I have a passion for teaching with technology.

I have seen the way that a student who was struggling with an idea can grasp it when it is conceptualized for them in a medium that appeals to them, like when they use technology. I am invested in my student learning and know that technology is the best way to help them learn and grow. So why wouldn't I give everything I have to make sure they have that technology at their fingertips?
