My Students

Do you remember making clouds in a bottle or flying paper airplanes to examine aerodynamics? Those are the experiences I am hoping to give my students using these materials.

My students attend a Title 1 public school in North Carolina.

They are a mixture of all cultures and colors, with a large Hispanic population. Many of my students are on free or reduced lunch which means many of the parents are struggling to make ends meet at home and do not have the opportunity to expose their children to science.

My Project

The science materials I am requesting will give each student the chance to investigate a science concept through reading and then completing an experiment. Not only will students learn new concepts, they will learn how to think critically and solve problems. They will develop a better understanding of scientific concepts like matter, weather, and simple machines while also learning how to work together and be creative. These skills will remain long after the materials have been consumed.

Part of my job is to develop students who are lifelong learners.

These materials will encourage students to think and problem solve. They will learn there is not always a "right" answer and that working together is sometimes more important than being correct. After working with the science centers, each student will also have a scientific knowledge base on which to grow and be successful not only in school but in making future decisions concerning scientific advancements in our world.
