Have you ever had trouble concentrating because there was too much distracting noise in your environment? That's why my students desperately need headphones!
Students at my school are so very excited about coming into the library media center to check out books, learn library and research skills, and explore 21st Century learning through technology.
They are bright kids who never cease to amaze me with the knowledge they already possess and their eagerness to learn. My school now has the highest number of elementary students enrolled in our district since an F5 tornado devastated a third of our city in May. While our school building was not damaged as a result of the tornado, many of our students have suffered great losses...loss of their homes, their pets, their loved ones and friends. The storm left no one unaffected.
My Project
My students sit practically elbow-to-elbow in our library media center, which makes it very difficult to concentrate if everyone at the table is working on a different project or at their own pace. Headphones for each of the computers would allow students the luxury of concentrating on their own work without being distracted by noises coming from others' computers.
Providing headphones in my computer lab would not only enhance the learning process, but it would also ease the economic hardship from which parents are suffering in the aftermath of the May 22nd tornado.
It's one less thing for parents to have on their school shopping list. I would like to do all that I can to help students start out the school year with the least amount of stress possible. Permanent headphones that stay in the media center would give them one less thing to worry about!
