My Students
Hooking teenage readers can be a challenge at times. "The Hunger Games" is a novel that will no doubt capture the attention of reluctant middle school readers.
Students in my class come from a variety of different countries, as well as have a diverse socio-economic background.
They are readers, writers, and historians that sometimes just need a little extra push of motivation to get the learning ball rolling.
My Project
I read a book called "The Hunger Games" this summer and felt like I couldn't put it down, thinking page after page about how my students would get hooked on it as well. It seems to be the perfect way to start the year, introduce the book, and let the students make their own personal connections. Then use it as a launching pad into our US History curriculum and how our country came to be.
Developing the love of reading and being an avid reader in middle school can greatly benefit students in the long run.
For those students who still are reluctant or unmotivated, I feel like the book "The Hunger Games" could be a turning point for them!
