Support My Budding Scientists!

My students need science supplies: a big screen microscope, slides, owl pellets, a balance, a model of a volcano, and activity tubs filled with manipulatives.

My Students

Third graders love science. They love to ask questions about the world and then conduct experiments or research the answer to that question. Unfortunately, science resources are typically expensive, so my students rarely have the chance to engage in the scientific inquiry they love.

I am a member of the Teach for America Charter Corps in Oklahoma.

I teach third grade at a high poverty school where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. Seventy percent of my students are Hispanic, most of whom are English language learners. My students love to learn, and they are excited about the progress they will make this year towards the ambitious goals we set together at the beginning of the year.

My Project

These science resources will provide my students with an opportunity to engage in real scientific inquiry. With these resources we won't just talk about science, we will actually use hands-on manipulatives that will bring these concepts alive for my students. When we learn about owls, skeletons and the food chain, my students will actually dissect real owl pellets and piece together skeletons. When we learn about volcanoes, they will actually be able to see and touch a three-dimensional model of the inside of a volcano. When we learn about the solar system, they will be able to engage in hands-on activities that also require them to practice their reading and writing skills. When we study plant structures, we will be able to examine these structures under the big screen microscope.

These resources will enable my students to develop their critical thinking and inquiry skills while engaging in interesting and thought-provoking hands-on activities.

Science is one subject that never fails to intrigue and motivate my students. By supplying my classroom with these resources, you are encouraging a classroom of budding scientists to continue to explore the world around them.
