Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Technology-rich classrooms give students the power to interact with their learning and make learning interesting.
My students are third graders that live in an urban area in Tennessee.
Most of the students come from very low income families and qualify for free or reduced lunch. The majority of my students do not come from fluent English speaking homes. Some even come from homes where the parents are not even literate.
My Project
iPads are portable and easy to use for the smaller children and can be passed around the room. One project that I would use the iPad for in my classroom is to make webpages about the topics covered in class. For example, when studying our Rocks and Minerals science unit, I would assign certain rocks/minerals to each group. The groups will make a webpage that explains about their rock/mineral. They would be required to find pictures to place on their page, links to information useful to tell more about their rock/mineral and display facts. During our unit, they will do experiments using their rock/mineral. This information will also be displayed on their webpage. By using a webpage instead of the usual posterboard project, parents and other interested parties can go online to see all of the webpages completed by each group. We would cover not only science standards but technology standards, as well.
Your donation will make a huge difference in the lives of my students.
I currently have two very old desktops in my classroom that often do not work properly and when they do, they are very slow and are frustrating to use. I spend lots of valuable class time helping students with computer issues and/or closing the use of computers altogether.
