Do you have a favorite science experiment that was done when you were in school? I know I do! My students have not had the opportunity to witness a life changing science experiment. This activity will change their lives forever as well as teach them the importance of the life cycle of a butterfly.
My students are amazing!
They are full of wonder and love to learn new things through science experiments. They attend a low income elementary school where every child in the school receives free lunch. There is not a lot of parental support that allows them to travel, visit places, or see new interesting things. They are always thankful for the things that they receive from the community and are very grateful as they do not receive much from parents or guardians. This would show the students that someone cares about them and they would be filled with joy!
The students are always engaged and intrigued when they get to do something new. Last year the students in my classroom got to see the life cycle of one butterfly. This kit would provide the students to each receive their own butterfly to watch go through the process. The puppet will be used as an activator when reading the story "The Hungry Little Caterpillar" This will get the students excited about learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. The life cycle cards will help to tell the life cycle of the butterfly as well as other animals that the students are required to learn about such as frogs and chickens. I can only imagine how excited they will be to participate!
This project will not only teach the students about the life cycle of a butterfly, but it will give them a chance to witness something that otherwise they would never get to see.
This will also open their eyes to how important and interesting science can be. Who knows...one day these children may be biologists, botanists, chemists, and many other types of scientists that will directly effect our future!
