My Students
"I can't fit on our rug!" This is a phrase I hear daily in our classroom. We gather for mini-lessons and read-aloud, small-group work and learning stations. Without a large rug, this gathering time is filled with students getting comfortable instead of students learning.
My second graders are eager to learn and love to come to school.
They soak up everything! I want to give them the resources they need in order to continue learning in a comfortable environment. Since we are a Title 1 school in a low-income area, our classroom money is spent on consumable resources more often than not-- the kinds of resources students are unable to bring from home. So, instead of purchasing much-needed larger items, we spend money on things like construction paper, crayons, and glue sticks. My students deserve so much more!
My Project
Currently, our school does not purchase classroom rugs for second grade classes. If we, as teachers, choose to have the students gather for mini-lessons or class meetings, we must purchase rugs on our own. I was able to get a carpet remnant for our classroom; however, it's not nearly big enough for 20+ students. Since we gather on the carpet several times every day, it would be wonderful to have a rug large enough to have a spot for each student.
Your donation to this project will impact the learning of students year after year.
They will finally enjoy a comfortable place to gather to learn, share, and play. Instead of spending time trying to fit everyone in, our time can be spent on more important matters-- the education of these special students!
