My Students

Do you remember what a treat it was to have someone read aloud to you as a child? Your donation to this project will provide all of the students in our school the same opportunity in a listening center!

Our school was recently damaged by an EF-5 tornado that directly impacted our students.

This tornado left a path of destruction 22 miles long that included the homes of many of our families. The students that attend our school come from a low-income area in which approximately 90% receive free or reduced lunches. Their families work hard to provide for their needs and do their best to ensure they are prepared for school each day. As our district works to rebuild our building, we will continue to provide the very best education for our students in a temporary location.

My Project

The teachers in our school have always been resourceful with the materials that were available; however, we may have to do without some of the things that we once had in our old building like our guided reading library. This project will allow us to expand our resources by adding a listening element to our guided reading library. From kindergarten to fifth grade, each classroom teacher will be able to create a listening center in which 2-8 students can listen independently or as a group to a variety of children's literature. This listening element will provide our students with fluency practice by allowing them to hear the stories being read to them and read along as they listen. Reading fluency brings our students one step closer to being successful readers.

This project will provide each classroom in our school with a CD player, headphones for up to eight students, a listening center organizer, and read along stories to use all year.

These resources will not only increase our ability as educators to reach struggling readers and reinforce those that are reading on-level, but it will also touch the lives of our students beyond school. Your donation will help us to provide a sense of normalcy for our students when they enter our classrooms this fall
