My Students

Have you ever solved a math problem and got it wrong because you did not fully understand what you read? Well, my students face this reality everyday. Reading comprehension plays a big part in math success.

My students are talented and eager to learn.

They also come from diverse backgrounds where many of the students are learning disabled and need more than just one type of interaction with math. The students' parents are supportive and want them to do well in all subjects, especially in math and reading. I want to encourage my students to learn that math is all around them and they can learn it using many genres of text.

My Project

These books will enhance my students' lives in a positive way. The experience alone of being able to pick up one of these books off our bookshelf, read it, and see math in a different kind of book will be very motivating. Using these resources will help my students to become fluent in two very important skills for success in life, reading and math. I will be able to implement interactive read alouds, which will allow me to share all of or some content specific materials with my students, using the different types of books. This can be used to introduce a topic, review a math topic, and get my students discussing their feelings and misunderstandings about the topics.

Your support will definitely change the lives of all of my students.

These math books will help students to become fluent in reading and math, and thus more confident in themselves and their abilities.
