Storage and Supplies to Spice up the Classroom

My students need art supplies, like markers, card stock, construction paper, and more, plus some storage to start the next school year.

My Students

"I love organizing!" one of my students noted, but we are limited on where we can put all of our materials.

My students attend an urban, high poverty school.

20 out of 21 of my students receive free or reduced cost lunch. We are a class of bilingual learners who learn academics both in Spanish and English. They are very limited on what materials they are able to provide off of the yearly school supply list, so various art materials would greatly enhance the fine arts activities in our classroom.

My Project

We are requesting some storage as well as card stock and art supplies. As a first year teacher, I was given an empty classroom, literally. When I walked in, the only thing in the classroom was one chalkboard. Over the course of the year I have gathered things here and there, but we are in desperate need of storage. The art cart and book shelf will help with organizing our new materials. We need card stock for important documents that need to go home and be kept for an extended period of time. While I received plenty of pencils at the beginning of the year, we had no pencil sharpener, so I had students volunteer their time after school, helping me manually sharpen pencils. Lastly, we asked for various markers to create lively posters for learning centers in the classroom.

Our project is important because it will enhance student learning by incorporating the fine arts and will allow us to utilize our space better.

That will allow us to have more learning zones.
