Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students want to see the world. We use maps in the classroom to find the location of cities, states and countries in our world. My hanging wall map just split from many years of use. We can no longer use it to locate important places.
I teach twenty great fourth grade students in a special needs school.
Students come to school everyday and are very interested in learning all they they can about geography. They love to study maps and dream about places that they will travel when they become successful adults.
My Project
My students need a large wall map set to study the location of cities, states and countries in our world. There are many benefits for students who have large wall maps to study in the classroom. Students learn directions such as north, east, south and west. When they read about China during guided reading, it is beneficial to find China on the map. If we are studying about Illinois, it is important to pull down the map and discuss the location of Illinois and what states border it. If we are discussing the huge floods that are affecting the United States, it is important to pull down the map and find the Mississippi to show how far this river travels and what an impact it has when it floods southern farmland.
Maps are used daily in our classroom to show and discuss location.
We miss using the map. Please help my students connect to the world. They are our future and we need to be sure they are prepared.
