My students need 6 digital cameras and 6 SD memory cards to start the new school year in their very first graphic design class.

We don't have photographic memories, so we'll just try digital cameras instead. Digital cameras will capture a concrete memory of a subject in a digital format that gives our students many creative opportunities to explore.
Our high school has an enrollment of approximately 1050 students with only one Visual Arts teacher.
The students live in and around a small town in North Carolina. I view our students as an eclectic group with farming roots. Though many of the families have a farming background, there is a strong military family presence in our community. This very fact brings into our school students and staff of many backgrounds and influences. Overall we maintain a rigorous, relevant and safe academic environment guided by positive relationships.
I realized to start the first Graphics Design class at our school; we might need a few basic resources. These resources would include digital cameras and memory cards to help students develop and critique composition ideas and products. The digital cameras will be used in many different ways in all of our visual arts classes. For example, they can be used as an editing tool to give students the ability to gain immediate feedback. Using a digital camera makes an image immediately available to the student in a digital format that can easily be transferred from the camera to the computer. The digital cameras will help students to illustrate narratives in their designs, written works and presentations. These cameras will serve as a tool to help students explore a subject matter through multiple artistic and learning styles. It will help students to develop, design and critique their work, while learning how to most effectively capture an image.
Six digital cameras and storage cards will be a great asset to our very first graphic design course, as well as all of our visual arts classes.
Digital Cameras in the classroom can be a motivating resource for students by helping to illustrate and visually enhance their story. Though we have a creative and innovative staff whose goal is to inspire creative and innovative students, it is amazing when given the resources they need, students' ability to be creative and innovative increases exponentially.
