My students need a new classroom rug that has room for everyone to sit and enjoy stories, community circle time, and new learning.

My Students
Right now our community carpet rug is much too small to fit all the students in our class. My students love to sit close while I read stories and squeezing onto and around the rug is distracting. My students would love this big rug that would have a space just for them!
I have a very diverse class of 16 loving, energetic kindergarten students.
Plus, they are ADORABLE! :) They are very sweet and excited to learn. They also love to talk and can never sit still for more than a few minutes (another reason why a rug with enough spaces for each student would be a perk!) I teach at a Charter School in Texas where the teachers stay with their students for two years. This year I taught kindergarten and next year I will stay with this class and teach 1st grade. We have had a wonderful year and I look forward to spending one more year with them. I would love to welcome them to 1st grade and brighten up our classroom with a new classroom rug!
My Project
I am requesting a donation of an 8X9 ft five-colored rug that has spaces for up to 20 students. The main reason we need this rug is that our current classroom rug is too small for us to sit around, let alone have everyone sit on it. My students would have their own space to sit in, which would greatly help our transition from community circle to listening to a read-aloud. It will provide a great example of how to give personal space to each other and keep my students focused on learning rather than getting a spot on the carpet. Also, it's design can provide for a large chart to sort pictures or objects, teach about area, or use as a way to form teams and groups (all kids on red work together, on blue work together, etc.)
In addition to easing our transitions, I feel this rug will make our classroom feel even more like a home away from home.
For many of my students, this is their first or second year of school and they are getting used to being away from their parents and in school for long periods of time. Our classroom is a place of great fun and lots of learning. I want our classroom to be warm and inviting. Also, I know they would be thrilled and very grateful to receive a gift from the generosity of others .
